Description
The thyme extract Occitania is manufactured from local by-products of the PPAM sector (Perfume, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants). This 100% natural dye is prepared from thyme stems and leaves (Thymus vulgaris L.). It contains flavonoids and plant tannins extracted with water.

Main components : flavones (luteolin, apigenin and their derivatives) + tannins
Uses : Natural dye & textile printing : this plant extract allows to dye any type of fibers. It does provide more intense colors on mordanted wool. Indicative shades depend on the recipe and mordant : Yellow-straw (aluminum mordant), grey-brown in the presence of iron, orange light in the presence of titanium. This extract provides a good lightfastness.
Other uses : Medicinal plant: the leaves and stems of thyme are traditionally used for symptomatic treatments of digestive disorders, coughs and as a mouthwash. The essential oil is used in the formula of various pharmaceutical specialties and is widely used as an antiseptic in aromatherapy. It is also present in the perfumery and hygiene products sectors. Aromatic plant: the leaf and dry flowering tops of thyme are used in the food sector and in many culinary preparations. It is also an excellent honey plant.
The plant : Thymes are sub-shrubs with woody, tortuous and very branchy stems, bearing small pale pink or white flowers. They are perennial plants of the Lamiaceae family. Thyme is very resistant. It needs sun and grows wild on the arid and rocky hills of the Mediterranean regions up to 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The plant is found in Western Europe. It is also established in Eastern and Southern Europe.
The essential oil is obtained from fresh flowering aerial parts. The essential oil content varies from 5 to 25 ml/kg and its composition varies depending on the chemotype.
