The culture of indigo is one of the first that was introduced by the European colonists into the New World.

This preindustry, the production of which was intended for Europe workshops, developped in the whole of the Caribbean in the XVIIth and XVIIIth century and played a significant economic role. Vestiges of indigo farms are still visible. The indigo anil (Indigofera suffruticosa Mill.) and the frank indigo (Indigofera tinctoria L.) are two common species of indigo in the archipelago.

Patrick BRENAC was invited to present a conference on the theme: ” the constraints bound to the quality of tinctoriales raw materials “. It also was the opportunity to announce the creation, quite recent, of the company GREEN‘ING.
This session also included conferences of Dominique CARDON (History of tinctoriales plants: place of Guadeloupe), Tristan YVON (History of Marie Galante’s indigoteries) and Yves PELISSIER (natural Fibers of Guadeloupe: perspectives of exploitation).

During the closing gala of the symposium, took place a fashion show ” Colors of Guadeloupe “, presented by the students of the professional high school Chevalier Saint-Georges who made original works dyed with local dye plants of Guadeloupe. The fabrics were previously dyed in June under the supervision of Michel GARCIA.
